Fundamental Theory and Design of Algorithms for Cognitive Radios (SENSECOGNITIVE)

Funding source: Spanish Ministry of Education and Science

Principal Investigator: Prof. Baltasar Beferull-Lozano

Topic: The main innovative concept proposed in this project consists in developing the fundamental theory and the algorithms required for a technology of cognitive radios supported by a sensor network, which will solve the different problems, thanks to the introduction of sensor networks and the network associated capacities. This technology will implement a dynamic and competitive access that will be mixed between cellular and broadband technologies. The assisted cognitive radio by sensors network in this project deals with different advanced techniques: a) new sensor allocation techniques for identifying unoccupied spectrum zones, b) management and exploitation of the corresponding sensed information for achieving the coexistence of secondary cognitive radios with authorized primary radios, without generating harmful interferences, c) design, dimension and new protocols of the wireless sensor network that supports the cognitive radios.

Role: Fundamental performance limits and algorithm design for wireless sensor networks

Period: 2009 – 2010
